The Story of Foli: a Fisherman's slave

Men and boys are trafficked too. On Lake Volta, thousands of children are forced to work 18 hours a day. Escape only comes if they are lucky to be rescued...or drown.

Meet Foli. A young boy who's childhood became marked with tragedy and hard labor exploitation.

Living with his grandparents in Ghana, young Foli watched his grandpa be struck on the street in a hit and run. The little family struggled to makeends meet after that as they had to pay costly medical bills.

One of Foli's other relative's knew that the grandparents wouldn't be able to support Foli any more, so he offered to provide Foli with a home and education. A new life.

Instead, the relative sold Foli into slavery on Lake Volta.

At 9 years old, Foli was forced to work 18 hours a day by his owner, a fishing master, to dive down into the dark water and untangle nets.

Foli didn't know how to swim.

Thousands of children just like Foli are being trafficked to Lake Volta where they are then forced into slavery.

Their only hope of escape is drowning unless a rescue team is able to discover them.

International Justice Mission is the largest anti-human trafficking organization in the world. They launch rescue missions all over the globe to free victims of trafficking and slavery, just like Foli.

In fact, thanks to generous donations given to ILM, the organization was able to do a rescue mission to find and free Foli from his owner and return him back to his loving grandparents.

But that's only one happy ending. Thousands of children are still awaiting rescue.

You can be their hero by helping fund their rescue mission today.

The Dressember Foundation is a partner of IJM. As a partner, Dressember raises funds to provide IJM with strategic monetary grants to foster rescue missions just like Foli's.

Right now, we here at Dress For Freedom are participating in a campaign with Dressember to help raise funds for freeing children trapped in slavery.

Will you help us?
